Men's soccer defeats Rollins for their sixth-straight win

Winter Park, Florida - The Fighting Knights traveled to Winter Park and defeated Rollins 2-1 to pick up their sixth-straight win and move to 3-0 in SSC play.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • Defender Ali Koller got Lynn on the scoreboard in the fifth minute when he put a corner from Alexandre Horveno in the back of the net. It was Horveno's sixth assist of the young season and Koller's first goal.
  • The rest of the half was rather quiet for both teams, with Rollins failing to record a shot on goal in the period, and Lynn producing just one other opportunity on net.
  • In the second half, Javier Ibanez found the back of the net in the 65th minute to give Lynn some insurance and a 2-0 lead. 
  • The Tars scored immediately after when Georgios Koliniatis beat Patrick Nettekoven to bring Rollins within one.
  • The Fighting Knights' defense was able to clamp down after that, and they prevented Rollins from scoring the equalizer.
  • It was a game of very few opportunities for each side. The Fighting Knights attempted only two shots on goal, and the Tars recorded just one.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Horveno's assist means that he will stay atop the SSC leaderboards with six and .857 per game. He is currently in the top 10 in the country in assists per game.
  • Ibanez's goal was his second of the season. He is currently fourth on the team in goals scored.
  • Since their loss in the opening game of the season to Maryville (Mo.), Lynn has outscored their opponents 14-5.

UP NEXT:

The Fighting Knights will return home for a game against Florida Southern on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. This will be the second meeting between Lynn and the Moccasins this season. In the first matchup, the Fighting Knights squeezed out a 1-0 victory.
