Dominant defense leads Fighting Knights past Tars

Winter Park, Florida – In their first game in over three weeks, the Fighting Knights picked up right where they left off, using fantastic defense to pick up their second consecutive conference win.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • In a season that has been defined by strong defensive performances up to this point, Sunday was perhaps the best of the year for the Fighting Knights. In the first quarter, they outscored the Tars 16-6 and held them to 3-13 shooting from the field. In the 10 minute period, they turned the Tars over eight times.
  • The Fighting Knights kept up the great defensive play in the second quarter, holding the Tars to 13 points. Lynn took a 31-19 lead into the half.
  • Rachel Romich led the way with nine points in the first half. Dani Lozzi added seven and led the team with three steals. 
  • In the second half, the Fighting Knights continued their dominant play, outscoring the Tars 35-24 to take home the 66-43 win.
  • Romich led the way for the Fighting Knights with a career-high 20 points. She led the team with three three-point field goals and three blocks. 
  • Lozzi scored 15 points on 5-7 shooting from the field and a perfect 4-4 from the free-throw line. She also led the team with eight rebounds, four assists and six steals. 
  • Trinity Edwards scored in double figures, putting up 12 points on 5-8 shooting from the field. 
  • Uloma Enyogasi and Kelsi Fizer each pulled down seven rebounds. Fizer added eight points, while Enyogasi scored four.
  • As a team, the Fighting Knights shot 46.7% from the field, and they held the Tars to just 25%. Rollins was just 3-23 from three-point range, including shooting 0-10 in the second half. 
  • The Fighting Knights recorded 15 steals and forced 21 turnovers. They also recorded seven blocks as a team.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • After starting 0-3 in conference play, the Fighting Knights have found their stride with back-to-back wins. In the two victories, they have outscored their opponents 141-86. They've given up 43 points in each of their last two wins.
  • The Fighting Knights have scored 60 or more in back-to-back games after not hitting that mark in their previous six games.
