Fighting Knights roll to easy win over Tars

Winter Park, Florida – The Fighting Knights picked up their first conference win since November, as they easily took care of the Tars in an SSC road contest.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • In the first half, the Fighting Knights jumped out to a commanding lead behind 17 points from Christian Peevy. Peevy made six field goals, which was just one fewer than the entire Rollins team made in the first 20 minutes. The lead swelled to as many as 19 with the Fighting Knights ultimately entering the break up 40-24.
  • Lynn outrebounded Rollins 19-13 in the half, and they forced 11 Tars' turnovers.
  • In the second half, the Tars were able to get the lead to single digits. However, with the score at 51-44, Lynn put together a 14-3 run to extend the lead back to 18. After that, the Tars were never able to get within striking distance again. Lynn would go on to win by a final score of 81-60.
  • Peevy led the way with 31 points, his third 30-point game of the season. He would add 12 rebounds for his fifth consecutive double-double. He has posted double digits in points and rebounds in every game since Dec. 11.
  • Alex Doane scored a career-high 14 points, shooting 6-7 from the field, including 2-3 from three-point range. 
  • Brandon Bornelus also scored 14, and he led the team with five assists. All of his made field goals were from three-point range.
  • Jamison Evans and Cameron Gaines each scored eight points. Evans would add seven rebounds, the second-most on the team. Gaines recorded a game-high two blocks.
  • Tommie Luke recorded four steals to lead the way for the Fighting Knights.
  • Lynn outshot Rollins 53.4%-35.1% from the field. They outrebounded the Tars 38-28, and they recorded 12 steals to just seven for Rollins.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE

  • This win ends a three-game conference losing streak for the Fighting Knights. It was their first SSC win since Nov. 20's opener against Eckerd.
  • The Fighting Knights have won four-straight games for the second time this season.

UP NEXT:

The Fighting Knights will be back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 5 at 7:30 p.m. at Nova Southeastern. The Sharks are currently undefeated and atop the SSC.
