ROME Ga. – The Lynn University women's basketball team shot a school record 68.9 percent from the floor in a dominating 86-53 win over Shorter on Saturday afternoon.
The Fighting Knights open the season at 2-0 after connecting on 31-of-45 shots from the field. The score was tied at 20 following the first quarter, but Lynn outscored the Hawks 66-33 over the final three periods.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lynn's defense held Shorter to 20-of-60 shooting from the field (33.3%)
- The Fighting Knights held a decisive edge in bench points (38-12) and points in the paint (52-18)
- The game featured six lead changes and two ties as sophomore
Makayla Hemingway sank two free throws to close the first quarter and even the game at 20-20

Meghan Cramb opened the second quarter with a three-pointer and Lynn never trailed again

Rachel Romich hit a three-pointer for a 14-point lead, 43-29, and graduate
Jada Marone hit two free throws at 1:41 as the Fighting Knights led by 16, 45-29
- Marone hit two more foul shots with seven seconds left to send Lynn into intermission up 47-33
- The Fighting Knights held Shorter to just six points in the third quarter
- Lynn slowly pushed its lead to 31 points in the third frame on two occasions
- Hemingway hit a layup with 3:37 left for a 64-33 advantage and sophomore
Kennedi Philson hit a jumper at 2:06 as Lynn led 66-35
- In the fourth, Romich knocked down a three-pointer at 3:03 for a 34-point lead, 83-48, Lynn's largest of the ballgame
- Philson closed the game's scoring with 36 seconds left as she hit a layup to set the final 86-53
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Marone led Lynn in scoring with 17 points, behind an 8-of-9 effort at the foul line. She also added six rebounds
- Sophomore
Ella Fiore was second on the roster at 16 points with five rebounds
- Romich and Philson each totaled 10 points. Romich hit two three-pointers, with three rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Philson was a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor with four rebounds
