Volleyball loses in NCAA South Region Semifinals

TAMPA, Fla. – The Lynn University women's volleyball team had its season come to a close with 3-2 defeat to No. 17 Barry in the semifinals of the 2022 NCAA South Region Championship.
 
Lynn finished its season with a 24-6 overall record. The 24 wins along with this year's winning percentage (.800) are both second-best in program history.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Fighting Knights won the first two sets 25-19 and 25-14, before the Buccaneers rallied for the win behind wins of 25-17, 25-21 and 15-6
- Lynn hit just .082 with 42 kills during the match
- The Fighting Knights used runs of 4-0 and 3-0 to grab a 17-14 lead in set one
- A service ace from graduate Marin Black handed Lynn a 20-16 lead and graduate Monica Mazzoleni smacked two late kills for a 25-19 win
- Lynn took control of set two with a 10-0 run for a 14-3 cushion and the run was capped by a kill from Mazzoleni
- Senior Nadia Lindner closed the set with a kill for a 25-14 win
- The Buccaneers used a 7-0 run to build a 16-8 lead in set three
- Lindner and senior Paige Barash each had a kill to narrow the Lynn deficit to 19-15, but Barry used a 3-0 run for the 25-17 win
- Barry used an 11-1 run in  set four for an 18-10 lead
- The Fighting Knights narrowed the gap to two points at 22-20 behind a kill from Mazzoleni, however, Barry smacked three kills to seal the win at 25-21
- Barry captured the match behind a 6-0 scoring run in the fifth set for a quick 9-2 lead
- Four late kills from the Buccaneers grabbed the set-five win at 15-6
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Lindner led Lynn with 11 kills and 12 digs
- Barash added nine kills and 16 digs
- Mazzoleni finished with nine kills and six blocks
- Senior Emily Edwards handed out 37 assists to go along with eight digs
- Black finished with 16 digs, while sophomore Isabella Gentile had 15 digs
- Mazzoleni and Edwards were both named to the All-Tournament team following the championship match on Sunday evening
