MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Lynn university volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 shutout of No. 16 Barry on Tuesday in Miami Shores behind a dominant defensive effort.
The Fighting Knights pushed their record to 8-3 overall on the season and 3-2 in the SSC while handing the Buccaneers their first loss of the season (11-1, 4-1 SSC). Lynn won by scores of 25-22, 25-20 and 25-13.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lynn's defense limited the hosts to a .139 hitting percentage throughout the three games, including a .000 in the third and final set
- The Fighting Knights also posted eight service aces on the night
- Despite the loss, Barry held much of the momentum in the first set and surged to a 16-12 lead
- The Fighting Knights then collected a 9-2 run for a 21-18 lead that forced a Barry timeout
- The hosts scored three-straight following the timeout, but Lynn posted four of the final five points for the victory
- Lynn shook off a 7-7 tie in the second set with a 9-0 scoring jolt for a 16-7 lead. Senior
Paige Barash had three kills during the run, while graduate
Marin Black had two aces
- The Buccaneers slowly pulled to within four late in the set, but a late error by the hosts handed Lynn the 25-20 win
- Barry came out strong in the third set despite scoring just 15 points by grabbing a 5-4 lead in the early going
- The Fighting Knights answered with a 10-1 run for a 14-6 lead and later a 6-1 spurt pushed the lead to 20-10

Monica Mazzoleni smacked three kills inside of Lynn's final five points to earn the set three win 25-13

Emily Edwards, the current SSC Setter of the Week, handed out 28 assists with seven digs and four blocks
