Lane scores 34 in Fighting Knight loss

SAINT LEO, Fla. Lynn University freshman Jimel Lane set a career-high with 34 points on Saturday evening in a 100-89 loss at Saint Leo.

The loss moves the Fighting Knights' overall record to 3-10, while currently sitting at 1-7 in the Sunshine State Conference. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: 
- Lynn shot 54.7 percent (35-of-64) from the field, 32.0 percent (8-of-25) from beyond the arc and 73.3 percent (11-of-15) from the free throw line
- The Knights outrebounded the Tigers by two, scored more points off the bench by nine and scored 10 more points in the paint than Saint Leo
- Saint Leo outscored the Fighting Knights in each half and the hosts led by as many as 32 in the second stanza
- The contest featured eight lead changes and five ties
- Back-to-back baskets and a free throw from Lane handed Lynn a five-point cushion, 12-7, just over five minutes into action
- Lane continued his hot start, hitting back-to-back three-pointers and stretching the Fighting Knights lead to 10 midway through the first period 
- A dunk on a fast break by freshman Rickey Ballard gave the Knights their largest lead of the night, 29-18 with 8:55 left on the clock
- The Tigers used an 11-0 run to snare a 34-33 lead with 4:51 left in the opening half
- The lead changed hands five more times over the remainder of the half and Saint Leo emerged with a 44-43 lead at intermission
- Lane and fellow freshman Nordin Kapic each made baskets to pull the Fighting Knights to within one in the early moments of the second half
- The Lions used the next 13-plus minutes to increase their lead to 32, 95-63
- Lynn closed the game over the final 5:16 on a 23-5 run to narrow the final to 100-89
- Freshman JP Baron pulled the Fighting Knights to within 16, 100-84 with 2:11 left
- Graduate Jahmel Meyers converted a late three-point play and Baron capped the evening with a layup with three seconds left
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS: 
- Lane finished the night with 34 points and eight rebounds 
- Kapic scored 14 points also adding eight rebounds 
- Baron was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field, 2-for-2 from three-point range and 1-of-1 from the foul line for 11 points
- Ballard finished with 10 points
