Lynn defeats Barry on Halloween

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Fans of the Lynn University volleyball team had to wait nearly a month to catch their Fighting Knights back at the de Hoernle Sports Center and the team didn't disappoint with a dominating 3-0 win over visiting Barry, Tuesday evening. The Fighting Knights are now 8-1 at home this season as they sit at 18-7 overall and 9-5 in the Sunshine State Conference.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lynn won with scores of 25-21, 25-17 and 25-12
- The hosts hit .389 with 45 kills, while limiting the Buccaneers to .205 with 39 kills and 16 errors
- Lynn led in aces (8-2), blocks (4-1), assists (37-34) and digs (52-50)
- The Fighting Knights never trailed in either of the first two sets and raced out to a 9-1 cushion in the first set
- Junior Maria Cecilia Pinho smacked three kills during the early outburst
- Graduate Dayana Chara posted a kill for a 20-14 lead before Barry used a 5-0 run to close the gap to 20-19
- Two kills from graduate Kenidy Howard and one more from Cecilia Pinho helped seal the 25-21 win
- A kill and service ace from junior Aline Olegario helped Lynn to an 8-4 lead in the second set
- Two more kills from both Olegario and Chara pushed the Fighting Knight lead to 17-12
- Olegario and graduate Samantha Wolf posted two kills late in the set and Lynn capitalized on three Barry errors down the stretch for a 25-17 win
- Lynn's most impressive numbers came in the third and final set as the hosts hit .457 with 16 kills and zero errors
- Wolf and Olegario combined for five early kills as the Fighting Knights led 9-2
- A kill from graduate Breeanna Long and two more from Howard gave Lynn a 16-7 lead
- Junior Isabella Gentile collected four service aces as part of a 9-3 scoring jolt that gave Lynn the 25-12 win
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Olegario hit .765 with 13 kills and zero errors
- Howard hit .727 with eight kills and zero errors
- Cecilia Pinho hit .438 with eight kills and nine digs
- Graduate Emily Edwards handed out 32 assists five digs
- Gentile tossed in 13 digs and her four set-three aces
