MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - Lynn women's basketball dropped its neutral site game against No. 5 Central Missouri, 77-57, Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Knights played the Jennies even over the final 32 minutes but could not overcome an early blitz by UCM.
Makayla Hemingway scored a career-high 18 points, including a 4-for-7 showing from deep, to lead the way for Lynn. The Fighting Knights are now 3-2 this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Carly Stroemel grabbed a defensive rebound and then made a jumper on the offensive end for the game's first basket
- The Jennies went on a 10-0 run over the next 2:30 to take a lead they would not relinquish
- Central Missouri led 26-6 eight minutes into the game
- The Fighting Knights played the Jennies even the rest of the way
- The Jennies shot 58% in the first quarter and went 4-for-7 from three-point range
- Lynn came back strong in the second quarter, outscoring UCM 18-13
- Hemingway, Bella Sparaco, Ella Fiore and Marianna Klavina all scored on a Fighting Knights 12-0 run to cut the deficit to 13 with 2:04 remaining in the first half
- Lynn got within single digits, 42-33, after Trinity Mocadlo and Fiore made back-to-back jumpers to begin the second half
- In the fourth quarter, two Danielle Montelbano free throws and a jumper by Hemingway put the Fighting Knights within 11 with 3:59 left
- UCM closed the game on a 12-3 run for a 77-57 final

- Hemingway has 35 points over her last two games
- Hemingway made 4 three-pointers in a game for the second time in her Lynn career (also 11/25/22 vs. Ky. Weslyan)
- Stroemel added 11 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks
