BOCA RATON, Fla. – Ella Fiore led Lynn with 15 points and 13 rebounds and Danielle Montelbano scored eight of her 12 points in the final five minutes, as Lynn came back from a 10-point deficit to defeat Bowie State, 53-49, Tuesday afternoon. The Fighting Knights held the Bulldogs scoreless over the final 5:25 and closed the game on a 12-0 run in the victory. Lynn is now 6-4 overall in 2023-24.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Makayla Hemingway started a dominant first quarter for the Fighting Knights with a three-pointer
- Marianna Klavina's steal and layup helped Lynn jump out to an early 15-2 lead
- Alana Francis' layup gave Lynn a 21-10 advantage to end the opening frame
- The Fighting Knights made just one field goal in the second quarter as the Bulldogs took a 30-26 lead into the half
- Ella Fiore made back-to-back baskets to put Lynn within four points, 36-32, with 3:47 left in the third
- Bowie State closed the third quarter on a 6-0 run to take a 10-point lead into the fourth quarter
- Fiore scored all eight Fighting Knight points in the third
- A Trinity Mocadlo three-pointer, Montelbano jumper and Klavina layup narrowed the Lynn deficit to three two and a half minutes into the final frame
- Bowie State led by eight points, 49-41, with 5:25 left
- The Fighting Knights closed the game on a 12-0 run, started by a Rachel Romich three-pointer, followed by eight consecutive points by Montelbano and a free throw by Fiore
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Fiore grabbed 13 rebounds for the second consecutive game and now ranks second in the SSC in rebounds per game (8.3)
- Montelbano was 6-for-6 from the free throw line to raise her season average to 81%
- Mocadlo led Lynn in minutes played (38) and +/- (+7)
- Lynn shot 69.2% in the first quarter (9-13)
- The Fighting Knights scored 57% of their points (30) in the paint
