HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The 15
th-ranked Lynn University women's lacrosse team used a 8-0 scoring run over the second and third periods en route to a 13-9 win over Alabama-Huntsville in the season opener for both schools, Friday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Fighting Knights trailed 5-4 with less than five minutes to play in the opening half
- Senior Bayley Tracey (3:22) and sophomore
Mallory Jarka (2:11) each scored man-up goals in the waning minutes of the half to give the Fighting Knights a 6-4 lead at intermission
- Lynn outscored the Chargers 5-0 in the third quarter for an 11-5 lead heading into the fourth
- Junior
Lauren Dickson opened the third with a goal at 11:28 and found the net a second time at 8:27
- Tracy and Jarka scored back-to-back goals at 4:52 and 4:04 and sophomore
Kristyn Johnson closed the third with a tally at 2:09
- Johnson scored again to open the fourth quarter at 10:14 to complete the 8-0 run
- The Chargers scored four goals inside the final 10 minutes of play to pull to within four at the final horn
- The Fighting Knights held a narrow 25-24 lead in shots and put 20 of those attempts on cage
- Lynn was 19-of-23 on clear attempts and controlled the tempo in the circle with a 16-9 edge in draw controls
- Passing was a key part of the attack for Lynn as it assisted 10 of the 13 goals compared to just one assist on nine goals for the Chargers
