ST. PETERSBURG, Fla - The Lynn softball team rallied to tie the game in the top of the sixth inning in their Sunshine State Conference opener against Eckerd but lost, 6-4. The Fighting Knights are now 4-3 on the season and will remain in St. Petersburg for a doubleheader against the Tritons tomorrow.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Center fielder Taylor Scala led off the game with a single but the Fighting Knights could not score in the top of the first inning
- Eckerd's Brenna Lokeinsky singled and later scored to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning
- The Tritons scored a run each in the second and third innings on a Jenice Casanas base hit and a passed ball to put the home team ahead, 3-0
- Designated hitter Sofia Jimenez singled and later scored on a Faith Miller base hit to put the Fighting Knights on the board in the top of the fourth inning
- With the bases loaded and two outs, Monique Poitevin knocked a pinch-hit two-run single to tie the game, 3-3, in the top of the sixth inning
- Eckerd responded with a two-out, bases loaded two-run triple by Lokeinsky to take a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth for the game's final runs
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Miller went 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI
- Miller also pitched three innings without allowing an earned run to lower her season ERA to 3.09
- Taylor Scala went 2-for-4 with her fifth stolen base of the season and is 5-for-9 over her last three games
- Jimenez went 1-for-2 with a walk and has reached base safely in five of her last seven plate appearances
- Left fielder Aryana Galiota went 1-for-2 to raise her season average to .400
- Poitevin now has three RBI in three at bats this season
- The Fighting Knights set a season high with nine hits
- After two successful attempts, Lynn is now 22-for-23 on stolen base attempts this season
