BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Lynn women's basketball team had four players reach double-digit points in an exciting 81-75 win over Saint Leo. The win set a Fighting Knights school record for victories in a season as they improved to 20-7 overall and 13-6 in the Sunshine State Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Graduate student
Loie Webb hit the first of eight Fighting Knight three-pointers to put Lynn ahead 5-2 with 7:52 left in the first quarter
- Sophomore
Ella Fiore scored seven straight points for the Fighting Knights to put the home team ahead 20-17
- A back and forth first quarter featured seven lead changes and ended tied, 22-22
- Graduate student
Meghan Cramb knocked down a three to give Lynn a 27-26 advantage at the 7:08 mark in the second quarter
- Saint Leo's Alex Button put the road team ahead 32-31 with a three-pointer at the 4:14 mark in the second
- Cramb hit two more threes in the closing minutes of the second quarter to give the Fighting Knights a 41-37 lead at the half
- Lynn took an eight-point lead on sophomore
Makayla Hemingway's three pointer with 5:54 left in the third quarter
- Two free throws by Fiore and a three by graduate student
Jada Marone gave Lynn their biggest lead at 10
- Tamara Smart of Saint Leo cut the Lynn lead to 61-53 at the end of the third quarter
- A layup by Cramb made the score 66-54 with 8:10 remaining in the fourth quarter
- Hemingway's made free throw gave the Fighting Knights their largest lead of the game to make the score 70-56 with 5:49 remaining
- Chynna Mattair's layup and three pointer cut the Saint Leo deficit to six with 4:13 left, 70-64
- Webb's free throw once again put Lynn up by 10, 77-67, with 1:19 remaining
- The Lions went on an 8-0 run over a :30 span to make the score 77-75 with :44 left
- Marone made two clutch free throws to make it a two-possession game with :34 left
- A Marone steal and Cramb layup ended the game with the Fighting Knights on top, 81-75
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Fiore shot 9-for-12 with a game-high 22 points and four steals
- Marone pitched in 18 points with a game-high eight rebounds and seven assists
- Marone went 11-for-12 from the free throw line, raising her season percentage to 75.7
- Cramb scored 15 points and went 3-for-6 from deep, her ninth game with three-or-more threes this season
- Hemingway added 13 points for Lynn, her sixth double-digit scoring game of the 2022-23 season
- Webb is 5-for-10 from three over her last three games
- Lynn shot 50% (26-for-52) from the field, 47.1% (8-for-17) from three and 80.8% (21-for-26) at the line
- The Fighting Knights held Saint Leo to under 50% shooting in each of the last three quarters
- There were 11 lead changes in the first half and none in the second half
- Lynn has won a season-high six consecutive games
