MELBOURNE, Fla. - Four players scored in double digits, but the Fighting Knights dropped their final game of the season, 100-77, to Florida Tech. Lynn finishes their 2022-23 campaign at 4-21 overall and 2-18 in the Sunshine State Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Freshman JP Baron scored a fast break layup to tie the game, 4-4, following a steal by freshman Nordin Kapic
- Florida Tech used a 14-4 run to take a 10-point lead with 13:12 remaining in the first half
- A jumper by freshman Rickey Ballard cut the Panthers lead to six at the 12:01 mark
- The Panthers led by as many as 17 before two Kapic free throws ended the first half with the score 48-33 in favor of Florida Tech
- Ballard's layup with 17:42 left in the game cut the Lynn deficit to 13
- Baron scored another fast break layup to make the score 55-45 with 16:09 remaining
- The Panthers pushed the lead to 17, 68-51, after a dunk by Mekhii Noble
- Niall Harris hit a three for Florida Tech to take their largest lead at the 4:03 mark, 92-65
- Sophomore Montez Leath tallied six points in the final 3:13 but the score at the final buzzer was 100-77 in favor of the home team
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Ballard went 8-for-13 from the field and led all Lynn players with 19 points
- Kapic added 17 points and had a game-high 13 rebounds for his sixth consecutive double-double
- Kapic finished the season averaging 19.3 points per game and 10.4 rebounds per game
- Kapic also had a game and season-high five steals in the loss
- Leath scored 14 points and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the field and 2-for-2 from the free throw line
- Freshman Jalen Gilmore scored 11 points and dished out seven assists
- Gilmore averaged over five assists per game on the year
- Junior Braxton Bartlett made two three-pointers and shot 43.6% from downtown this season (24-for-55)
