MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Lynn softball team traveled to USSSA Space Coast Complex and lost to Goshen (Ind.), 2-4, and Huntington (Ind.), 7-9, on Wednesday. The Fighting Knights are now 9-7 overall this season while remaining 3-3 in the Sunshine State Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):
- Both Goshen and Lynn were held scoreless through four innings of play
- McKenzie Richardson hit a two-run single as part of a three-run top of the fifth inning for Goshen in which all the runs were unearned
- The Maple Leafs tacked on an insurance run on a single in the top of the sixth inning to make the score 4-0
- The Fighting Knights scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning after Cameron Buzzell singled and later scored and a Morgan Simpson single scored Taylor Scala
- Down 4-2, Lynn had runners on second and third with one out but two pop outs ended the game
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):
- T. Scala led off the game against Huntington with a home run in the bottom of the first inning
- Ayrana Galiota singled, stole second and scored on a Josey Sumpter single
- Sumpter then stole second and later scored on a Sofia Jimenez base hit to give Lynn a 3-0 lead after one inning
- In the bottom of the second, with the bases loaded, Sumpter knocked in Galioto, T. Scala and Olivia Lovins with a triple to give Lynn a 6-0 lead
- Jessica Duvall put the Foresters on the board with an RBI double in the third inning
- J. Duvall hit a two-run double as part of a five-run fourth inning for Huntington in which four of the runs were unearned
- Lynn took a 7-6 lead in the fifth after Monique Poitevin drew a bases loaded walk
- Huntington tied the game on a single in the seventh inning and the next batter reached on an error that allowed two more runs to score to put Lynn behind, 9-7
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Pitcher Haley Fardanesh combined to pitch six innings while allowing only one earned run in the two games
- The earned run allowed in game two ended a streak of 25 consecutive innings without surrendering an earned run for Fardanesh
- Morgan Simpson stole two bases in game one and another in game two to give her 12 steals on the season
- Faith Miller went 2-for-4 at the plate to raise her season average to .333, while striking out a season-high four batters in the circle during game one
- In the two games combined, Galioto went 2-for-5 to raise her season average to .361, scored two runs and stole three bases
- T. Scala hit her first career home run in a Lynn uniform, reached base four times in eight plate appearances and scored three runs over the two games
- Poitevin has seven RBI this season while collecting two hits and five walks (.389 OB%) in 18 plate appearances
- In the second game, Sumpter went 2-for-3 with a triple, run scored, four RBI and a stolen base
- Jimenez posted her second multi-hit game of the season in the loss to Huntington
- The Fighting Knights had nine hits in each game
- Lynn stole seven bases over the two games and has stolen 53 bases in 16 games this year (3.3 steals per game)
