TAMPA, Fla. – The Lynn University women's basketball team lost in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament Championship game on Sunday, 63-43, at No. 3 ranked Tampa.
The Fighting Knights fall to 23-8 overall, but more importantly will wait for tonight's NCAA Tournament selection show at 10:30 p.m. to find out if they will receive an at-large bid. Fans interested in watching can visit NCAA.com for the selection show.
Lynn is ranked eighth in the most recent NCAA Regional rankings and eight teams from each of the NCAA's eight regions earn a spot.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Sophomore
Ella Fiore and graduate student
Jada Marone were each named to the all-tournament team
- The Spartans led from the opening tip to the final horn
- Tampa outscored Lynn in every quarter, including a 15-6 advantage in the first quarter
- The Fighting Knights shot just 28 percent (16-of-57) from the field and made just two three-pointers
- Neither team started particularly well in shooting as graduate student
Jada Marone pulled Lynn to within 5-2 with a layup at 7:12

Marianna Klavina hit a layup at 3:48 as the Fighting Knights trailed 7-4
- The Spartans increased their lead to 11 with the first basket of the second quarter and held it hold over 10 points for the remainder of the second quarter
- Sophomore
Kennedi Philson hit a free throw at 8:23 to pull Lynn to within 10 at 17-10
- Philson later hit two free throws to narrow Lynn's gap to 29-17 at halftime
- The Fighting Knights posted a quick 6-0 run in the opening minutes of the third quarter as the deficit was nine, 35-29
- Graduate student
Meghan Cramb started the run, while sophomore
Ella Fiore and graduate student
Lucija Kostic each hit layups
- Sophomore
Rachel Romich closed the third with a layup as Lynn trailed by just 15, 45-30
- Tampa pushed its lead to a game-high 24 points in the fourth before Philson converted a traditional three-point play to close to within 17 points, 60-43 in the closing minutes
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Fiore led Lynn with 14 points. She also added five steals, three rebounds and three assists
- Kostic finished with six points and five rebounds
