Stroemel’s seven blocks ties school record in win over Saint Leo

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn graduate Carly Stroemel scored 15 points, grabbed nine rebounds and tied a school record with seven blocks in a 66-56 win over Saint Leo, Wednesday evening. Six Fighting Knights scored at least seven points in the win as Lynn improves to 11-7 overall and 5-4 in the Sunshine State Conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Lions jumped out to an 11-5 lead through the first four minutes
- A three-pointer by Danielle Montelbano cut the deficit to two points with seconds remaining in the first quarter
- Ella Fiore opened the second quarter with a steal and layup
- Saint Leo went on a 9-0 run to extend its lead to 11, 24-13, with 6:24 showing in the second quarter
- Lynn stormed right back, as Stroemel and Trinity Mocadlo each scored four points during a Lynn 12-0 run to take a 25-24 lead with just under two minutes remaining in the first half
- The Lions held a 28-27 lead at the break
- Capped by a Stroemel three, Lynn scored seven of the first eight points of the third quarter
- The Fighting Knights went 8-for-8 from the foul line over the final two minutes of the third to take a nine-point lead
- Channing Chappell drained a three, giving Lynn its largest lead at 14 with 8:33 left
- Saint Leo cut the Lynn lead to six, 59-53, with three minutes remaining in the game
- Rachel Romich provided the dagger with a three-ball to put the Fighting Knights up by nine with two minutes to go

FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Stroemel joined Shander Gray (11/27/1993) as the only women in school history to block seven shots in a game 
- Fiore posted her fifth double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds while adding five assists, four steals and three blocks
- Stroemel (1.4) and Fiore (1.3) rank third and fourth in the conference in blocks per game
- Montelbano led all Lynn scorers with 16 points and has scored in double figures in each of her last 11 games
- Lynn outscored Saint Leo's bench 16-6, with all 16 points coming in the second half
- The Fighting Knights committed a season-low nine turnovers
- Lynn held its opponent under 40% shooting for the fifth straight game
