Lynn advances to Elite Eight on N’gatie’s goal

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The second-seeded Lynn University men's soccer team secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Coker University in the Round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday afternoon. Dominik N'gatie's second-half goal proved to be the difference. The Fighting Knights have advanced to the quarterfinals next weekend and remain unbeaten at 17-0-2. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: 
- Henry Haferkorn's header from a corner kick went wide for the matches first shot at the 9:46 mark 
- Luca Clavero made a leaping save on the Cobras' first shot on goal 18 minutes into the first half 
- Less than two minutes later Jan Rohrling's low shot was stopped to keep the game scoreless 
- Coker and Lynn traded shots in the 28th minute, as Lucas Vila's strike was off target at 27:59 
- Vila had another shot attempt blocked and N'gatie's shot at 36:27 was off target 
- Lynn had a 5-3 shot advantage in the first half 
- The Fighting Knights scored seven minutes into the second half 
- Lynn pushed the ball up the field quickly as Joao Assis Negrao fed Luan Barroso Rennstich 
- Rennstich sprinted and crossed a pass to N'gatie who had an open net off his right foot for a 1-0 Lynn lead 
- The Fighting Knights tightened their defense with the lead, but Coker managed three shot attempts over an 11-minute stretch between the 58th and 69th minutes 
- Neither team attempted a shot over the final 20+ minutes for a 1-0 final
  
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS: 
- Assis Negrao made his first start this year and tallied his second assist 
- N'gatie scored his fifth goal for the Fighting Knights in 2024 
- Lynn has shut out its opponent in five consecutive matches
- Clavero recorded his 12th clean sheet of the season 
- Lynn has conceded just nine goals in 18 matches and is ranked second in the country in goals against average (0.47)
