BOCA RATON, Fla. – Third baseman
Cole Fowler homered twice and graduate
Seth Klaiber picked up the win in their first game in Lynn uniforms as the Fighting Knights defeated Washburn, 9-8, Thursday in the season opener for both schools.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lynn held a 7-2 lead heading into the seventh inning before the Ichabod's plated three runs in the seventh and eighth innings for an 8-7 lead
- In the home half of the eighth, A.J. Orrico singled home
Julio Camarena that tied the game and
David Judge hit a sacrifice fly that scored Fowler for the game-winner

Joel Hayner pitched the top of the ninth in relief of Klaiber and got a pair of ground outs, the first a double play, to earn the save
- The Fighting Knights jumped out to a 3-0 cushion after scoring a run in each of the first three innings

Leon Paulino doubled home Orrico in the first, Fowler crushed a homer to right center in the second and he singled home
Shawn Dougherty in the third
- Washburn plated two in the fifth to narrow the count to 3-2 before Fowler homered to left center in the fifth
- Lynn extended its lead to 7-2 in the sixth

Deric LaMontagne started the outburst with a run producing single that scored Judge
- Fowler was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for the second run and
Jesse Robinson came in as a pinch hitter and singled home Dougherty

Nathan Shane pitched four scoreless innings (4 IP, H, BB, 5 SO)
- Fowler went 3-for-4 with 3 R, 2 HR and 4 RBI
- Orrico went 3-for-6 with a run and RBI to raise his career average at Lynn to .343
- Lamontagne and Dougherty each collected two hits
- Lynn has won five straight openers
- The Fighting Knights have played the Ichabod's in each of the last three seasons and are 2-1 over the stretch
