MELBOURNE, Fla. - Lynn men's basketball fell on the road to Florida Tech Saturday night, 98-83. The Panthers were lights out from the field, shooting over 50% in each half. Nordin Kapic contributed 24 points and 18 rebounds while Tradavis Thompson added 20 points and seven assists for the Fighting Knights.
Lynn is 13-7 overall and 8-6 in the Sunshine State Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Thompson scored Lynn's first five points as FIT opened the game on a 14-5 run
- The Panthers opened a double-digit lead 10 minutes into the game
- FIT's lead hit 20 points with 7:34 left in the first half before a Kapic traditional three-point play made the score 32-15
- The Fighting Knights deficit stood at 18 points with 3:55 remaining in the first half on Jalen Gilmore's jumper
- Kapic and Gilmore layups ended the half with Lynn trailing by a score of 50-32
- Lynn shot 34% from the field in the first half while FIT shot 56%
- Lynn carried over its run to the second half for eight straight points to make it a 50-36 contest
- FIT responded with a 14-3 run to bring its lead to 25, 64-39
- After the Panthers led by as many as 28, a Lynn run was capped by Brad McCabe's three-pointer with the score at 84-66 with 5:11 remaining in regulation
- Free throws by Austin Vick were followed by a McCabe dunk and three as the FIT lead was trimmed to 13, 86-73, with 3:23 showing
- The Fighting Knights were unable to get closer than a 13-point margin as Florida Tech finished with a 98-83 win
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Kapic grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds, surpassing his 17-rebound performance against Barry on 2/8/2023
- He leads the conference with 19.6 points per game
- Thompson reached the 20-point mark for the fifth time in his last six games and dished out seven assists
- McCabe scored all 14 of his points in the second half and went 4-for-7 from deep
- Lynn tied a season low with five combined steals and blocks
- The Fighting Knights committed just nine turnovers and have turned the ball over fewer than 10 times in four of their last six games
