Lynn’s comeback falls short on the road

MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Lynn women's basketball team lost a close contest with Florida Tech, 61-56, Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Knights overcame an early cold spell to take their first lead late in the third quarter, but an 8-0 Panthers run in the fourth quarter sealed the win for Florida Tech.  

Lynn is now 12-10 overall and 7-7 in SSC play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
- The Panthers jumped out to a 9-0 lead as Lynn opened the game on a 6:38 scoring drought 
- Marianna Klavina provided Lynn with its first basket and the Fighting Knights trailed, 13-5, after one quarter 
- Tech opened its largest lead at 13, 20-7, with 6:31 remaining in the second quarter 
- Free throws by Danielle Montelbano and Ella Fiore cut the deficit to single digits, 20-11 
- The Fighting Knights went on a 6-0 run thanks to a three-pointer by Taylor Boruff and a traditional three-point play by Montelbano to make the score 22-17 with 1:42 showing in the second quarter 
- Lynn trailed 24-19 at the break 
- The Fighting Knights tied the game on Makayla Hemingway's three with 4:45 remaining in the third quarter 
- Hemingway gave Lynn its first lead, 32-31, with a layup at the 2:27 mark in the third 
- Channing Chappell helped Lynn to regain its lead with a wide open three-pointer, 35-33 
- The Fighting Knights and Panthers entered the fourth quarter tied at 35 
- Fiore scored four consecutive points for Lynn as the Panthers led by one, 40-39 
- Hemingway again gave the Fighting Knights the lead, this time with a three, to make the score 40-39 with 4:19 left in regulation 
- Florida Tech went on an 8-0 run over the next two minutes to jump out to a 51-44 advantage 
- A nice give and go between Montelbano and Carly Stroemel stopped the Panthers run 
- Montelbano's layup with 1:18 left made it a one-possession game, 51-48, with 1:18 showing 
- After FIT took a six-point lead, Klavina's three-pointer with nine seconds left once again cut the deficit to three for Lynn 
- The Panthers went 3-of-4 at the foul line in the final seconds to seal the victory 

FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS: 
- Montelbano led Lynn with 16 points on 6-for-9 shooting 
- She tied a season-high with eight assists (also 11/11/23 vs. Christian Brothers) 
- Hemingway added 10 points and eight rebounds 
- She has multiple three-point makes in 11 games this season and leads the team with 34 made threes this season 
- The Fighting Knights had a season-low four combined steals and blocks 
- Lynn has committed 45 fouls and opponents have attempted 61 free throws against the Fighting Knights over the last two games
