Lynn mounts second half comeback in 56-54 win over FSC

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn women's basketball overcame a 14-point deficit, outscoring Florida Southern 35-19 in the second half, en route to a 56-54 win Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Knights went 5-for-9 from beyond the arc in the second half, as Marianna Klavina made three threes during a third quarter jolt.

Lynn is now 13-11 overall and 8-8 in the Sunshine State Conference while Florida Southern drops to 13-11 and 6-11.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Fighting Knights went 5-for-9 from deep in the second half
- FSC shot 52% in the first half but just 24% in the second half
- Lynn missed its first nine field goal attempts as the Mocs opened up a 12-2 lead seven minutes into the first quarter
- Three-pointers by Makayla Hemingway and Trinity Mocadlo and a jumper by Carly Stroemel powered an 8-0 Lynn run to bring the Fighting Knights within two, 12-10
- FSC responded with a 7-0 run as Sydney Gomes hit a three to begin the second quarter to extend Florida Southern's lead to nine, 19-10
Ella Fiore scored four points in a 1:15 span as Lynn trailed 31-19 with 3:41 left in the half
- The Fighting Knights trailed, 35-21, at the break
- Lynn went on a 14-4 run over the final eight minutes of the third quarter
Marianna Klavina knocked down a three-pointer at the 4:09 mark of the third to cut Lynn's deficit to single digits, 37-29
- Klavina knocked down two more threes over the third quarter spurt, including one with five seconds left to close the quarter with a score of 41-37 in favor of the Mocs
- A close fourth quarter followed with four ties and three lead changes
- Hemingway kept Lynn's hot shooting going into the fourth, knocking down two threes less than a minute into the quarter to give the Fighting Knights a 43-41 lead
- The Mocs hit a three with 5:09 left to go up by two, 47-45
Danielle Montelbano found Klavina on a nice cut to the hoop for a layup to give Lynn a 52-50 advantage with 2:12 left in regulation
- Montelbano made three free throws over the next two minutes to put the Fighting Knights up by four with 12 seconds left
- Gomes hit another three to make the score 55-54 with three seconds left
- After Montelbano made a free throw, the Mocs three-point attempt for the win at the buzzer fell short as Lynn held on for the 56-54 win

FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Fiore led Lynn with 13 points and 8 rebounds
- Klavina went 3-for-4 from three and scored 11
- Hemingway added 12 points and has scored in double figures in three straight games
- 61% of Lynn's field goals were assisted
- The Fighting Knights' eight three-point field goals were tied for their second most in a game this season
