BOCA RATON, Fla. - Lynn defeated Caldwell 13-3 in seven innings, Monday afternoon. Cole Fowler and Shawn Dougherty each homered for the second consecutive game, while DJ Flowers went 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs and two RBI.
The Fighting Knights are 14-9 overall and 3-3 in SSC play this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lynn starter Noah Lucia pitched a clean top of the first inning, striking out two
- Cole Fowler smashed a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning as Deric LaMontagne also scored
- The Cougars tied the game, 2-2, in the top of the second on a two-run single by Sean Brown
- The Fighting Knights recaptured a two-run lead in the bottom of the third
- AJ Orrico led off the inning with a single, stole a base and scored on LaMontagne's base hit
- Leon Paulino stole second and LaMontagne scored on a throwing error
- Lucia's outing ended in the fourth with a 1-2-3 inning, striking out his final two batters faced
- Lynn added a fifth run in the fourth inning when Orrico drove in Peter Avino on a grounder to second
- Caldwell had two runners on in the top of the fifth but reliever Hunter Shew caught a Cougar batter looking to end the inning
- Lynn rallied for four more runs in the fifth inning
- Shawn Dougherty hit a towering home run to right field, scoring David Judge, to put the Fighting Knights ahead, 7-2
- After Avino walked, DJ Flowers drove him home on a triple over the center fielder's head
- Cristian Otero followed with a double to the right-center field gap to score Flowers and give Lynn a 9-2 lead
- The Cougars scored an unearned run in the top of the sixth
- Dougherty hit a liner over the left fielder for an RBI double in the sixth inning as Paulino scored
- After Dougherty scored on a wild pitch, Flowers knocked in Avino on a single to left
- Flowers scored on an error for the final run of the sixth inning
- Jack Potter pitched a scoreless seventh inning and the game was called with a final score of 13-3
