Softball honors 11 Fighting Knights on Senior Day

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn softball lost two close games to No. 25 Rollins, Saturday, 2-1 and 3-0. At a packed Lynn softball complex, the Fighting Knights made numerous highlight reel defensive plays, including two each by outfielder Morgan Simpson and catcher Destiny Torres.
 
Prior to the doubleheader, Lynn celebrated 11 seniors in their final home game: Haley Fardanesh, Aryana Galioto, Eliza Gonzalez, Olivia Lovins, Faith Miller, Alexis Murphy, Monique Poitevin, Maiya Reinhart, Morgan Simpson, Josey Sumpter and Destiny Torres.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1):
- Rollins scored an unearned run in the top of the second on a sac fly to take a 1-0 lead
- Josey Sumpter led off the bottom of the second with a double and later scored on Alexis Murphy's fielder's choice to tie the game
- Catcher Destiny Torres caught a Tars runner stealing to end the top of the third
- Lynn turned a double play to end the top of the fifth after Morgan Simpson caught a pop up and threw out a runner at home
- Faith Miller walked and Ariana Rego singled to start the bottom of the fifth inning but the Fighting Knights were unable to bring them home
- The Tars took the lead in the top of the sixth on a solo home run
- Lynn failed to put a runner on base over the final two frames as Rollins held on for a 2-1 win
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 1):
- Sumpter went 1-for-3 with a run scored and pitched 4.1 innings without allowing an earned run
- Haley Fardanesh pitched 0.2 scoreless inning in relief
- Reliever Madison Prickett allowed one run over the final two innings
- Rego raised her batting average to .362
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2):
- Prickett started and kept the game scoreless through four innings
- Rollins broke the scoreless tie in the fifth on an RBI single
- After the Tars led off the sixth with a walk and double, both runners were driven home on a base hit to give the Fighting Knights a 3-0 lead
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 2):
- Eliza Gonzalez recorded both Fighting Knight hits
- Prickett allowed three runs in 5.1 IP
- Fardanesh pitched another 0.2 scoreless innings
- Murphy pitched a scoreless frame in the top of the seventh
- The Lynn defense did not commit an error
