Men’s lacrosse drops narrow game at Maryville

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Junior Connor Houston and graduate Jalen Stanton scored late goals to pull Lynn University within one, but the Fighting Knights couldn't complete the comeback as they endured an 11-10 loss to Maryville, Monday. Lynn settles at 2-3 with the loss while the Saints are now 4-1.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Graduate Joseph Michalski scored late in the third quarter and sophomore Connor Zombro scored a man-up goal early in the fourth as Lynn knotted the game at 8-8
- The Saints rebounded with three goals over the next 3:03 for an 11-8 lead
- The Fighting Knights made one final push as Houston scored with 3:33 left and Stanton found the net at 3:00 to pull to within 11-10
- The Fighting Knights attempted four shots inside the final 1:39, but none found the net as the final horn sounded
- Maryville held a slim 37-35 advantage in shots
- Lynn was 22-of-23 on clear attempts, but won just 10-of-25 faceoffs
- The game was tied 4-4 at halftime
- Graduate Thomas Murray scored twice in the opening quarter, while graduate Scott Friant (man-up) and graduate Brian Hoskins each scored in the second
- Houston opened the second half with a man-up goal and scored again at 10:52 to tie the game at 6-6
- Maryville answered with two goals that set up Lynn's comeback bid
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Houston scored three goals with one assist to go along with four ground balls
- Michalski and Friant scored once with two assists
- Murray found the net twice with one assist
- Sophomore Tristan Lenard, the current SSC Defensive Player of the Week, notched 11 saves in 60 mins of work
- Junior Matthew Canedo scooped up three ground balls and caused three turnovers

- Lynn returns to action on Saturday when it plays North Greenville in Savannah, Ga.
