DAVIE, Fla. – Sophomore
Nordin Kapic reached the 1,000-point milestone as the Lynn University men's basketball team suffered a 124-89 loss to No. 1 ranked Nova Southeastern in the SSC Tournament semifinals, Thursday.
Lynn is now 17-11 overall and awaits a possible bid to the NCAA Tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lynn trailed 60-45 at halftime and Nova held a 64-44 scoring advantage in the second half
- The Sharks made 45 baskets and shot 58% from the floor
- Lynn shot 46% from the field on 31-of-67 shooting with seven three-pointers
- Nova's defense turned 23 turnovers into 30 points
- The Sharks grabbed an early 10-point lead in the first half before graduate
Brad McCabe hit two free throws and graduate
Jamison Evans knocked down a jumper to cut the deficit to 16-12 at 13:22
- Nova extended its lead back to 11, 23-12, but a quick surge from Lynn made the score 23-18 at 10:27
- Evans hit two free throws at 6:28 to pull the visitors to within five, 33-28
- Graduate
Ben Gahlert later hit back-to-back layups as the Fighting Knights trailed just 39-33 with 5:13 left in the first half
- The Sharks collected a 10-0 run late in the first to lead 60-45 at the break
- McCabe hit a layup and free throw at 17:09 in the second half as Lynn trailed 67-50
- Evans hit a three-pointer and sophomore
Jalen Gilmore hit a fastbreak layup to pull Lynn to within 92-59 at the midway point of the second half
- The hosts pushed their lead to 37 late in the second before Gahlert hit a layup for the final points to set the score at 124-89
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Kapic entered the evening with 996 points and he hit the plateau with two free throws at 14:55 in the first half
- A First Team All-SSC honoree, Kapic scored 483 points a year ago and currently sits on 520 points this season
- Kapic finished the night with seven points and nine rebounds
- Gahlert led the Fighting Knights with 26 points and 10 rebounds, his 11
th double-double of the season
- Evans added 22 points and four three-pointers
