MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - Lynn baseball won its road non-conference game against St. Thomas (Fla.), 9-7, Monday night. The Fighting Knights overcame a 5-2 deficit, scoring seven runs in the final four innings. Leadoff hitter
AJ Orrico paced Lynn with three hits and four runs scored in the victory.
Lynn is now 18-16 overall this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Leon Paulino's single up the middle scored
AJ Orrico for the first run of the game in the top of the third inning
- St. Thomas tied the game with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth
- Peter Avino gave the Fighting Knights a 2-1 lead with an RBI single, scoring
Cole Fowler, in the top of the fifth
- Three singles and a walk led to a four-run bottom of the fifth for the Bobcats
- Lynn responded with a four-run frame of its own in the top of the sixth
- Orrico drove home See with a base hit up the middle
- After David Judge was hit by a pitch, Fowler doubled to right field, scoring two runs
- Paulino drove in Judge with a ground out for the final run of the top of the sixth to give Lynn a 6-5 lead
- The Bobcats tied the game in the bottom half of the inning
- Fowler hit a sacrifice fly to score Robinson as the Fighting Knights regained the lead in the top of the seventh
- Paulino later hit a run-scoring double to make it an 8-6 ballgame in favor of Lynn
- St. Thomas responded with a solo homer in the bottom of the frame to get within one run
- Juan Carlos Camarena provided the Fighting Knights with an insurance run on a base hit that scored Orrico in the top of the ninth
- Reliever Drew Clark pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save and seal the Lynn victory
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Orrico scored four runs in a game for the second time in his Lynn career (also 3/27/22 at NSU)
- Paulino and Fowler each recorded three RBI and rank first and second on the team in RBI this season
- Avino is 5-for-10 over his last four games
- LaMontagne has multiple hits in each of his last three games
- Robinson scored twice and leads the team with 30 runs scored this season
- Starting pitcher Austin Barnao pitched two perfect innings, striking out three
