FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Lynn dropped its final two games of the regular season to Nova Southeastern on Saturday by scores of 6-5 and 5-1. The Fighting Knights were led by
Morgan Simpson in game one, who stole two more bases to finish the season with a program-record 39 steals, and
Eliza Gonzalez in the final game, who doubled and homered. Lynn closes the year at 12-38.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1):
- Simpson led off the bottom of the first with a single and stole second to set the single-season record
- NSU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on a solo home run
- The Fighting Knights surged for five runs in the bottom of the second inning
- Josey Sumpter walked and then the Sharks recorded two straight outs
- The rest of the damage was done with two outs as Sumpter scored on a base hit to right by
Destiny Torres
- After Aryana Galioto singled, Torres scored on a single by Simpson to give Lynn a 2-1 lead
- Lovins cleared the bases with a single and was credited with two RBI, as Gonzalez scored on an error for a 5-1 Fighting Knight lead
- The Sharks cut Lynn's lead to three runs in the top of the fourth
- Nova added another run on a single and double in the top of the sixth to trail 5-3
- In the top of the seventh, NSU got within one on an RBI double and then took the lead on a two-out single with runners on second and third
- Monique Poitevin led off the bottom of the seventh with a single but was unable to score and tie the game for a 6-5 final in favor of NSU
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 1):
- Simpson went 2-for-4 with a run, RBI and two stolen bases
- Her 39 stolen bases in 2024 are a program record, breaking her mark of 37 steals set in 2023
- She is also the all-time leader in steals with 98 in her career
- Galioto went 2-for-3 with a run and a stolen base
- Torres recorded her first run and RBI of the season
- Sumpter reached twice and scored a run
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2):
- Gonzalez homered in the bottom of the third to put the Fighting Knights ahead, 1-0
- A walk and hit by pitch was proceeded by a three-run home run to give NSU a 3-1 lead in the top of the fifth
- The Sharks scored two more runs in the top of the sixth to go up 5-1
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 2):
- Gonzalez hit her third homer and eighth double of the season
- Teagan Riley hit a pinch-hit single to finish the year with 30 hits
- Lovins and Sumpter each recorded a hit
