Lynn defeats No. 1 Tampa in series opener

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Seven of Lynn's nine runs were scored with two outs as the Fighting Knights defeated No. 1 Tampa, 9-5, Thursday afternoon. Starting pitcher Nathan Shane picked up the win after allowing just three runs in six innings, while five Fighting Knight hitters posted multiple hits.

Lynn is now 22-26 overall this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The first four Spartan batters reached base en route to a three-run top of the first inning
- Shane struck out two batters in a scoreless top of the third inning
- Deric LaMontagne and Julio Camarena led off the bottom of the third with back-to-back singles
- AJ Orrico drove in LaMontagne with a single for the Fighting Knights first run
- The Fighting Knights rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning
- Leon Paulino led off the frame with a base hit to center
- After a hit by pitch and base on balls, LaMontagne drew a bases-loaded walk to plate a run
- Julio Camarena's sac fly to centerfield scored Shawn Dougherty and tied the game, 3-3
- Orrico's two-out single drove home LaMontagne and Juan Carlos Camarena
- Fowler finished the barrage with an opposite-field single to score Peter Avino and give Lynn a 6-3 lead
- Lynn took an 8-3 lead in a two-run bottom of the sixth, scoring both runs with two outs
- Jesse Robinson singled, stole second and later scored on a base hit by Fowler
- Paulino knocked in Avino on a rope to right
- Tampa responded with a pair of runs of its own on a two-run home run in the top of the seventh
- Jesse Robinson's opposite field single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh scored Ju. Camarena for a 9-5 Lynn advantage
- Reliever Matt Tiberia pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to end the game
