WINTER PARK, Fla.- Junior
Leo Beath's 27-point performance helped lead Lynn to a 97-85 comeback on the road against Rollins Saturday afternoon. The Blue and White faced a 37-32 deficit heading into halftime, but a strong second half shooting performance in which the Fighting Knights shot 65.7% from the floor and 50% from beyond the arc put Lynn over the top.
Individually, Beath shot 52.6% (10-19) from the floor, a respectable 37.5% (3-8) from three-point range and a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line. Including Beath, five members of the Blue and White had double-digit scoring performances against the Tars. With the win, the Fighting Knights improved to 10-4 on the season with a 5-3 mark in SSC play while Rollins fell to 9-7 on the year with a 2-5 skid in league play.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Rollins won the opening tip, racing out to a 6-0 lead with just over two minutes played.
- Senior Osei Price, who scored 12 in the contest, put up the first bucket for Lynn with just under three minutes gone to cut the Tars' lead to four early.
- Beath rattled in the first three-point jumper for the Fighting Knights at the 16:08 mark to cut Rollins' lead to five, 10-5.
- A quick three from graduate student Jordan Wilkins and a driving layup from Price tied the game up at 10-10 with just under 15 minutes to play in the first.
- Rollins amassed its highest lead of that game at the 9:45 mark in the first following a 16-5 run by the Tars.
- A three-pointer from Osei pulled the game back within four at the 7:21 mark just before a 6-0 run by the Tars put Rollins up by double-digits with six minutes left to play in the first half, 34-24.
- The last shot of the half came on a three from junior Noah Kattan to cut into the Rollins lead by halftime, 37-32.
- The Fighting Knights took the lead at the 17:43 mark in the second half following a stepback jumper from Beath to put Lynn up 42-41.
- A layup from Kattan capped off a 10-2 run for the Blue and White, putting Lynn up 58-52 with 13:26 left to play.
- Kattan capped off his afternoon with eight points in the second half including a big three-pointer to put Lynn up by 11 and later a dunk to give the Fighting Knights a 13-point swing.
- Lynn went on a 18-7 run leading up to the four minute mark, capped off by a driving layup from sophomore JP Baron as the Fighting Knights led, 86-69.
- With the Blue and White victory well in hand, Beath closed out the game with six of Lynn's 10 points within the final two minutes.
- A final dunk from Beath sealed the win for the Fighting Knights to a final score of 97-85.
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- As a whole, Lynn shot 33-66 from the field (50.6%), 14-37 from long range (37.8%) and a clutch 17-20 from the charity stripe (85%).
- Kattan had a career night, recording his best game as a Fighting Knight with 11 points, two rebounds and two assists.
- Both Beath (24 points) and graduate student Carson Smith (11 points) led the comeback charge, recording a combined 35 points in the second half.
- Lynn limited its turnovers as a team from seven in the first half to just three in the second half.
- Osei had a notable game on the support front, recording a season-high three steals while tallying eight of Lynn's 19 total assists.
- Lynn had a notable presence from its bench, with 32 of the Blue and White's points coming from non-starters.
- Carson continued to have a notable season on the offensive side of the ball, recording his fourth-straight game with double-digit points (13 points). He has only recorded one game this season with less than 10 points. (9 points vs Trinity Baptist)
