FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Lynn University women's basketball lost its Sunshine State Conference road game to No. 21 Nova Southeastern 73-61 on Wednesday evening. The Fighting Knights shot 61% in the first half and held a lead in the fourth quarter, but a cold spell down the stretch doomed the upset bid.
Lynn is 10-9 overall and 4-8 in the SSC while the Sharks improved to 16-3 and 9-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lynn began the game on a 14-2 run as
Jess Knight and
Ella Fiore each added four points during the opening 5:19
- Two free throws each by Knight and Romich brought Lynn to a 22-9 lead after one quarter
- Lynn led by 10 with 5 minutes remaining in the first half, but the Sharks closed the gap to three by halftime
- NSU tied the game but Montelbano drove and dished back-to-back assists on threes by Romich and Hemingway
- Romich's driving left-handed layup gave Lynn a 50-45 advantage before the Sharks used a 6-0 run to lead by one heading into the fourth quarter
- Romich rolled in a three to bring Lynn within two, 58-56, with just over six minutes remaining in regulation
- Mocadlo's rainbow three then gave the Fighting Knights the lead by one
- The Sharks ended the game on a 15-3 run to seal the win
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Montelbano had a career-high 11 assists
- With six rebounds, Fiore surpassed 500 career rebounds as a Fighting Knight
- Romich posted her sixth double-figure scoring game of the season and swiped two steals
- Knight led Lynn with 14 points and has scored 12+ points in 17 of 19 games this season
- 18 of Lynn's 20 field goals were assisted, tying a season high
