Howard raises average to .408, steals four bases in one-run losses

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Lynn dropped a pair of exciting one-run games at Eckerd on Saturday, falling 8-7 and 9-8 (8 innings). The Fighting Knights totaled 22 hits across both contests but came just short of a six-run comeback in game one, while allowing Eckerd to claw back from a big deficit in the nightcap.

Lynn is 6-10 overall this season and 0-6 in the SSC.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1):
- Aun'Yale Howard led off the game with a triple and scored on Kyra Sunga's opposite-field single for a 1-0 lead early
- A two-run homer gave Eckerd the lead in the bottom of the first
- The Tritons rallied for three runs in the bottom of the second inning
- Three singles led to two more runs and a 7-1 lead in the third and tacked on another run in the fourth
- Lynn's comeback started in the fifth inning with three runs
- Onnalee Floriano led things off with a single and Anabel O'Donnell followed with a base hit to drive in Floriano
- Howard recorded an RBI single and Sunga's sac fly scored Kyleigh Hope for an 8-4 score
- Cameron Buzzell and Floriano singled in the top of the sixth to start another rally
- O'Donnell later knocked in Floriano with an opposite-field single
- After Quinn Lockhart scored on a double steal, Hope's double scored O'Donnell to bring Lynn within one, 8-7, through 5 ½ innings
- Reliever Kayley Zazzali pitched a 1-2-3- bottom of the sixth, ending the frame with a strikeout
- Teagan Riley singled with one out in Lynn's last opportunity but was unable to score for an 8-7

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2):
- Lynn put up a five-spot in the top of the second
- Teagan Riley led off the inning with a homer to right-center field
- O'Donnell, Kylee Dodson, Howard, Sunga and Aiyana Hicks all singled for a 5-0 Lynn lead
- Howard singled, stole two bases and scored on Floriano's base hit up the middle for a 6-0 advantage in the top of the fourth inning
- Eckerd chipped away at the Lynn lead with a solo homer in the fifth and then scored four runs in the fifth on three hits
- After Hicks and Riley walked in the top of the sixth, Hicks scored on an interference call and Riley scored on Ashlee Martinez's double to the gap for an 8-5 Blue and White lead
- Eckerd used a walk, homer and two singles to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh
- A leadoff single led to an unearned run in extra frames for another Eckerd win

FIGHTING KNIGHTS STATS:
- Howard went 4-for-8 with three runs, two RBI, a triple, walk and four stolen bases over the two games and is hitting .408 in 2025
- O'Donnell was 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI in game one and followed with a 1-for-3, R, BB performance in game two
- Sunga combined for three hits, a run, three RBI and a stolen base
- Riley hit her second home run of the year
- Hicks reached base four times over the two games
- Floriano had four hits in the series to raise her season average to .304
- Hope hit her first extra-base hit of the season and has scored five times in 10 games played
- The Fighting Knights have played many close contests this season but are 0-5 in one-run games
