Fighting Knights fall to Nova Southeastern in NCAA Regional semifinals

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.- The Lynn University men's basketball team fell to top-seeded Nova Southeastern in the second round of NCAA South Regional in a gritty 80-72 contest. Lynn concluded the season with a record of 21-9 which is the most wins in a season since the 2018-19 season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Leo Beath scored Lynn's first points of the game with a driving layup to tie it up early, 2-2.
  • Osei Price found Jordan Wilkins for Lynn's first three of the game to take an early 5-4 lead.
  • Wilkins connected on his third three of the game to keep the Fighting Knights up, 11-9.
  • Lynn started the game shooting a perfect 5-of-5 from three-point range to maintain its one-point lead heading into the first media break, 17-16.
  • Out of the second timeout, Beath drained a contested three-point shot to push Lynn's lead out to six, 27-21.
  • NSU stormed back on an 8-4 run to cut Lynn's lead to two following a tip-in from Ryan Davis, 31-29.
  • The Sharks tied the game up at 31-31 before Braydon Iuli joined in on the three-point parade, dropping in one to give Lynn back the lead, 34-31.
  • Following a shot from the Sharks tying the game up at 36-36, Price found JP Baron in the corner to push Lynn back in front, 39-36.
  • The Fighting Knights advanced their lead out to 46-39 before NSU answered back with four-straight to cut Lynn's lead to three heading into halftime, 46-43.
  • Nova Southeastern came out of the half on a 7-0 run to take its first lead since the early first half, 50-46.
  • Carson Smith scored the first bucket for the Fighting Knights in the second half on a driving layup to cut NSU's lead to two, 50-48.
  • With Nova up 54-50, a steal from Baron turned into three-points as Wilkins dropped one in from beyond the arc, 54-53.
  • With the Blue and White biting at their heels, the Sharks went on a 9-0 run to build their lead up to 10, 63-53.
  • Nova Southeastern remained ahead 76-67 in the final two minutes of play before Price buried a three to cut the Sharks' lead to six, 76-70.
  • Despite a valiant fight from Lynn, Nova Southeastern closed the game out on a final 4-2 run to advance to the South Regional final, 80-72.
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
  • Osei Price finished the game with 19 points in his final game as a Fighting Knight senior.
  • Senior Carson Smith finished his graduate season tallying double-digit points in 29 of Lynn's 30 games this season.
  • Senior Jordan Wilkins led the team in three-pointers made, sinking four of five (.800%).
  • The future is bright for freshman John Roland who tallied 25 total points and three blocks for the Fighting Knights in the south regional.
  • Beath led both teams in rebounds, pulling down 17. He finished the season with a team high of 287 (9.6 avg).
  • The Fighting Knights finished the season as the second best three-pointing school in Division II, making 391 total for an average of 13 a game.
  • Lynn also thrived at taking care of the ball, ranking third in assist/turnover ratio (1.96).
  • Lynn shot a perfect 7-of-7 from distance to start the game.
