Fighting Knights fall to No. 5 Florida Southern for first loss of 2025

LAKELAND, Fla.- The Lynn University women's lacrosse team's undefeated streak came to an end as the Fighting Knights dropped a heart-breaking 15-11 loss to fifth-ranked Florida Southern on the road, Wednesday evening.
 
The third-ranked Fighting Knights fell to 12-1 on the year and 2-1 in Sunshine State Conference play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Mocs struck first with a man-up goal at the 10:56 mark in the first quarter to take an early lead
- Lynn responded with a strike from Kristyn Johnson to even things up just moments later at 1-1
- FSC took back the lead in the closing seconds of the opening period on two quick goals to go up 3-1
- Florida Southern scored their fourth goal of the contest to open the second quarter, 4-1
- The Blue and White responded with a flurry of three goals in under a minute to tie the game up in the blink of an eye, 4-4
- The rally included goals from Angelia Huggins, Elizabeth Clagett and Johnson
- Following Lynn's back-to-back-to-back goals, FSC responded with a pair of strikes to retake its lead at 6-4
- With the clock ticking down in the second period, Johnson led the Fighting Knights with three straight goals from Rebecca Clark to close out the period and put Lynn up 7-6 heading into halftime
- Riding off the momentum from the end of the first half, Lynn cruised to two-straight goals in the third quarter to take a three-goal lead, 9-6
- The goals were courtesy of Olivia Fox and Hannah Exley (free-position)
- The Mocs answered back with three quick strikes to end the quarter as the game headed into the final period knotted up at 9-9
- Florida Southern kicked off the fourth quarter with a barrage of three goals to retake the lead at 12-9
- The Mocs extended their lead out to 15-9 with two minutes left to play
- Huggins and Fox closed out the game on a pair of man-up goals as Lynn fell in a tough loss to FSC, 15-11
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Johnson led the offense with five goals on the evening, all of which came in the first half
- She has tallied four or more goals in each of her last five starts and her 62 goals this season rank third in the nation
- Huggins has recorded two or more goals in each of her last four starts, she currently sits at 21 total goals on the year
-Exley found the back of the net twice on Wednesday, surpassing 20 goals on the season (21)
- Goalkeeper Ava Ceglia tied her season-high 12 saves in the contest
- Clark tallied three assists in the game to bring her season total to 27
