TAMPA, Fla. - The historic season for the ninth-ranked Lynn University women's lacrosse team came to a close on Saturday afternoon with a 12-7 loss to top-ranked Tampa in the second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament.
The Fighting Knights settled at 15-5 on the season after making their second consecutive appearance in both the Sunshine State Conference and NCAA Tournaments.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Spartans struck first, scoring two goals in the opening seven minutes of the first quarter to take a 2-0 lead
- Lynn answered back as
Kristyn Johnson rattled in a goal on a free-position attempt to cut Tampa's lead to one, 2-1
- Tampa closed out the first period with a goal scored in the last thirty seconds to head into the second quarter up 3-1

Elizabeth Clagett weaved her way through defenders to strike for the Blue and White's first goal of the second quarter, 3-2
- Tampa rallied for two more goals to go up by three, 5-2
- Around the half-way point of the second period, Clagett responded with her second goal of the afternoon to cut UT's lead back to two, 5-3
- The Spartans went on to rack up three more goals before half time to take an 8-3 lead with less than a minute left in the first half
- However, the Fighting Knights had the final say in the half as
Olivia Fox found the back of the net on a feed from
Hannah Exley to head into halftime down 8-4
- Tampa came out of the half, striking first within the first two minutes to go up five, 9-4

Rebecca Clark got home on a free-position shot just a few minutes later as the Blue and White went into the fourth period down 9-5
- The Spartans opened the final quarter of regulation with a quick strike to take a five-goal lead, 10-5
- Following a brief rain delay, Lynn came out with some fire, connecting on a pair of goals from
Hannah Connors and Exley to cut Tampa's lead to three, 10-7
- The Spartans went on to score two more goals in the final four minutes of play to close out the game at a 12-7 final score
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Clagett led the Fighting Knight offense with two goals on the afternoon
- She also tallied two ground balls and two draw controls
- Johnson, Clark, Connors, Exley and Fox all recorded goals in the game as well
- Exley racked up three ground balls while Clark tacked on two ground balls and three draw controls
- At goalkeeper,
Ava Ceglia put up 11 saves along with a team-high four ground balls
