TAMPA, Fla. - The Lynn University baseball team wrapped up its 2025 campaign following a heartbreaking, 10-inning loss to Albany State in a NCAA South Regional elimination game, 10-6. The Fighting Knights overcame an early deficit to take the lead into the ninth before falling in extras.
Lynn finishes its season at 30-18 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Albany State took an early lead in the first inning, loading the bases before scoring on a balk, 1-0
- The Golden Rams went on to grow their lead out to 3-0 following a two-hit inning in the second inning
- The Fighting Knights answered back in the bottom of the second as
Leon Paulino and
Shawn Dougherty cracked back-to-back doubles to get on the board with a run
- The Lynn offense struck back in the bottom of the fourth with
Cole Fowler kicking off the frame with a lead-off single
- Paulino capped off the fourth inning with a big two-run shot to knot the game up at 3-3
- ASU managed to retake the lead in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly
- The Blue and White responded in the bottom of the frame as
Blake Mayberry was brought home on a double from
Jesse Robinson to tie the game up at four
- Just an inning later, Lynn gained its first lead of the day on a lead-off home run from Dougherty to give the Fighting Knights a narrow 5-4 lead heading into the seventh
- In the seventh, Lynn added onto its lead with a sacrifice fly from Dougherty to bring in another run and grow the Blue and White lead to two
- Pitcher
Hunter Shew and the Lynn defense got in a bit of trouble in the top of the eighth, allowing two runners on with no outs before the Blue and White rallied on a pop-up and a double play to get out of the inning unscathed
- The Golden Rams answered back in the top of the ninth, tying the game up on two hits and a pair of walks

- The Fighting Knights got two runners on in the bottom of the ninth but were unable to make it home as the game was sent into extra-innings
- Albany State piled on four runs in the 10th inning, taking a 10-6 lead on three hits and a Lynn miscue
- Lynn got two base runners on in the bottom of the 10th before suffering its final out of the season, falling 10-6
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Lynn 1-5 batters each had multiple hits and combined to go 14-for-23 (.609 BA)
- Fowler finished the season with a .438 batting average, the third highest in a single season in school history and the best mark since 1991
- Paulino's 155 career RBI are the third most in Lynn history and his 30 HR rank fifth
- Dougherty reached 50 hits and 30 RBI for the season with his 3-for-4, 3 RBI performance
- Mayberry had three hits and two runs to finish the season at .327 with 52 runs scored
- Robinson went 8-for-14 over his final three games and hit .500 in the NCAA Tournament to raise his season average to .358

- Shew allowed just one run in three innings of relief, striking out two
- Lynn's .309 batting average was the seventh best mark in program history
- The Fighting Knights racked up 32 hits over the two regional games
