Late goal sinks Fighting Knights at Eckerd

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Lynn University men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 setback to Eckerd in Sunshine State Conference action Saturday evening at Johnson Field. Robin Muenst converted a penalty kick in the 23rd minute to erase an early deficit and send the match into halftime tied at 1-1, but the Tritons broke the deadlock with the eventual game-winner in the 82nd minute. Lynn outshot Eckerd 10-5 and allowed just one shot in the second half as the Fighting Knights moved to 3-2-4 overall and 2-2-1 in SSC play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Eckerd generated the first opportunity of the match in the third minute, sending an attempt off target
- The Tritons opened the scoring at 5:40, finding the top-left corner to take an early 1-0 lead
- Rui Ferreira generated Lynn's first scoring opportunity in the 11th minute, having his attempt blocked before the Fighting Knights earned their first corner kick
- Muenst put Lynn's first shot on goal in the 17th minute, but the Eckerd goalkeeper turned away his attempt toward the bottom center
- Fabian Vyhnalek had a shot blocked in the 20th minute before Joao Silva followed with an attempt that went off target
- Lynn continued to apply pressure and earned its second corner kick in the 22nd minute
- The Fighting Knights were awarded a penalty kick following an Eckerd handball at 22:19, and Muenst buried the opportunity into the bottom-right corner to level the match at 1-1
- Ferreira looked to give Lynn the lead in the 31st minute, but his attempt went off target
- Thiago De Carvalho generated another opportunity in the 40th minute before Fabian Wagner sent a shot off target in the 44th
- Lynn held Eckerd without a shot following the Tritons' opening goal and entered halftime tied at 1-1
- Eckerd generated the first opportunity of the second half in the 52nd minute, but the Lynn defense blocked the attempt
- The Tritons earned a corner kick in the 58th minute, but the Fighting Knights kept the match level
- Muenst generated Lynn's first shot of the half in the 67th minute, having his attempt blocked
- The Fighting Knights followed by earning back-to-back corner kicks as they looked to take their first lead of the evening
- The match remained deadlocked until the 82nd minute, when Eckerd found the top-left corner to take a 2-1 advantage
- Lynn pushed forward in search of a late equalizer, earning corner kicks in the 88th and 90th minutes
- Muenst produced one final opportunity at 90:00, putting a shot toward the bottom center of the net that was saved
- The Fighting Knights were unable to find the equalizer as Eckerd held on for the 2-1 victory

- Muenst scored Lynn's lone goal, converting a penalty kick in the 23rd minute
- The goal marked Muenst's fourth of the season
- Muenst led the Fighting Knights with four shots, placing three on goal
- Ferreira finished with two shots, while Vyhnalek, De Carvalho, Joao Silva and Fabian Wagner each added one
- Lynn outshot Eckerd 10-5 and held a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal
- The Fighting Knights held Eckerd to just one shot in the second half
