Lynn edged by Barry at the buzzer

BOCA RATON, Fla. - A back-and-forth Sunshine State Conference battle came down to the final possession on Saturday afternoon, as the Lynn University men's basketball team suffered a heartbreaking 77-76 loss to Barry at the de Hoernle Sports & Cultural Center.

The Fighting Knights led for much of the afternoon and built a nine-point halftime advantage, but a late surge from the Buccaneers - capped by a buzzer-beating layup - spoiled Lynn's home effort.

With the result, the Blue and White move to 12-10 overall and 7-8 in SSC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Lynn set the tone early as John Roland knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to spark a quick 6-0 start with 18:26 on the clock 
Roland continued his strong opening stretch with a pair of finishes inside and a three, as the Fighting Knights controlled the tempo with an eight-point lead with 14:07 in the half, 16-8 
Barry answered with paint points and free throws, but Lynn responded with a tip-in from Matthew Puodziukaitis and a transition three from Justin Bubak to extend the margin to eight points, 18-10 
- Bubak drilled another three-pointer at 11:20 to extend to an 11-point cushion, 23-12 
Lynn went on an eight-point run between 6:19 and 4:50, 34-24 
- A few free throws from Antoine Jacks and Puodziukaitis took Lynn into halftime with a 40-33 lead 
- Roland opened the scoring in the second half with a good jumper in the paint to give Lynn a nine-point cushion, 42-33 
- Barry tied the game with 14:48 on the clock, 47-47 
- A minute later, the Fighting Knights started their rally with a SveinnBirgisson layup, 53-51 
- Lynn then went on an eight-point run ending with a dunk by Puodziukaitis in the paint, assisted by Braydon Iuli, 61-53 
- Polk extended the Blue and White's lead to 12 with 6:34 left in the game, 69-57 
- Barry tied the game 73-73 with 2:20 left on the clock 
- Polk drilled a timely three with a minute left of play, 76-73 
- Barry scored back-to-back baskets, ultimately winning the game 77-76 at the buzzer

FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS: 
Roland led Lynn with a game-high 20 points, knocking down four three-pointers and adding nine rebounds 
Polk finished with 12 points, including the go-ahead triple in the final minute 
Iuli contributed 11 points, six assists, and three rebounds 
Bubak added 11 points off the bench, providing key energy on both ends 
Puodziukaitis chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds, shooting 5-of-8 from the field 
- Five Fighting Knights scored double-digit points 
Lynn shot 44.8% from the floor and held a 44-38 advantage in points in the paint
