Fighting Knights secure series win with doubleheader split against Eckerd

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Lynn University softball team split a Saturday doubleheader against Eckerd College at Lynn Softball Field. The Fighting Knights dropped the opener, 8-1, before responding with a 4-2 victory in game two to secure the series win over the Tritons.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game #1):
- Lynn threatened early in the second inning as Isabella Rittle and Kaela Santiago both singled before Kyleigh Hope was hit by a pitch to load the bases
- Onnalee Floriano lifted a sacrifice fly to left field that brought home Rittle to give the Fighting Knights a 1-0 lead
- Eckerd tied the game in the fourth inning when Faith Wharton delivered an RBI single after a Lynn error earlier in the inning allowed the Tritons to extend the frame
- The Tritons pulled ahead in the fifth inning, using a two-run double and an RBI single to push the lead to 4-1
- Eckerd continued the rally in the sixth with a two-run double to extend the margin to 6-1
- In the seventh inning, the Tritons added two more runs on an RBI double to build an 8-1 advantage and close out the scoring in the opening game

FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game #1): 
- Rittle led the offense with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate
- Teagan Riley and Quinn McFadden each recorded a hit, while Santiago added a single
- Lynn finished with six hits in the contest
- Floriano drove in Lynn's lone run with a sacrifice fly in the second inning
- In the circle, Kayley Zazzali started and allowed one run (unearned) over 4.1 innings with one strikeout
- Savannah Ellis worked the final 2.2 innings in relief
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game #2):
- Eckerd opened the scoring in the first inning, drawing two bases-loaded walks to take a 2-0 lead
- Lynn responded in the bottom half as Hope walked, stole second and later scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 2-1
- The Fighting Knights took control in the second inning when Ellis worked a walk before Rittle singled to right field to set up a scoring opportunity
- Santiago reached on a fielder's choice before Allie Morgan reached on a defensive error that allowed two runs to score, giving Lynn a 3-2 advantage
- The game remained tight through the middle innings as Gabriella Lindsey kept Eckerd limited to just one hit through five innings
- Lynn added an insurance run in the fifth when Kylie Burden stole second and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Floriano to extend the lead to 4-2
- Eckerd threatened in the sixth with the bases loaded, but the Lynn defense recorded a key out at the plate to preserve the lead
- Zazzali closed out the final two innings to secure the victory and earn the save

FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game #2): 
- Rittle paced the offense with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate
- Cara Willis and Morgan each recorded a hit as Lynn totaled four hits in the victory
- Floriano drove in a run with a sacrifice fly while Morgan reached on a play that brought home two runs during the second-inning rally
- Lindsey earned the win after tossing 5.0 innings, allowing two runs on one hit while issuing six walks
- Zazzali recorded the save, pitching two scoreless innings to close out the game
- The Blue and White earned their first Sunshine State Conference series victory of the 2026 season
- Lynn also handed Eckerd its first two SSC losses of the year while ending the Tritons' 13-game winning streak following Friday night's win
