Lynn unable to capitalize as Embry-Riddle pulls away in game 2

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Lynn baseball was unable to recover from an early deficit on Saturday, as Embry-Riddle capitalized on timely hitting and defensive miscues to hand the Fighting Knights a 9-0 loss in Game 2 of the series. The Eagles plated runs in five different innings, including a pair of unearned tallies that helped break the game open, while their pitching staff limited the Blue and White to just five hits and kept Lynn off the scoreboard despite multiple scoring opportunities.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Embry-Riddle struck early in the first inning, using a walk and back-to-back singles to plate the opening run and take a 1-0 lead
- The Eagles capitalized on a Lynn throwing error in the second, pushing across an unearned run to extend the lead to 2-0
- After a quiet middle stretch, Embry-Riddle added to its advantage in the fifth with three hits, including an RBI single to make it 3-0
- The Eagles broke the game open in the sixth, taking advantage of a Lynn error and a sacrifice fly to score two unearned runs and extend the margin to 5-0
- Embry-Riddle continued to apply pressure in the seventh, stringing together a run-scoring single and RBI double to push the lead to 7-0
- The offensive surge carried into the eighth, as the Eagles delivered two doubles to plate two more runs and build a 9-0 advantage
- Lynn's best scoring opportunity came in the sixth, loading the bases with one out, but the Fighting Knights were unable to capitalize
- The Blue and White scattered hits throughout, including multi-hit efforts from the top of the order, but were unable to string together timely offense
- Embry-Riddle's pitching staff controlled the game throughout, keeping Lynn off the scoreboard and closing out the 9-0 shutout
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Justin Lopez and Joel Tapia-Melo led the offense, each recording two hits, combining for four of Lynn's five total hits
- Tapia-Melo reached base three times (2-for-3, BB), pacing the Fighting Knights in on-base presence
- Lynn was held scoreless despite putting multiple runners on, stranding seven total baserunners
- Lynn drew three walks as a team, with Tapia-Melo, Scout Simpson, and Jackson Tyer each reaching via free pass
- Lynn recorded five total hits but did not produce an extra-base hit in the contest
- Ryan DiMaggio delivered a solid start, allowing just two earned runs across six innings while striking out five
