Lynn splits road doubleheader at Embry-Riddle behind late game 1 surge

DAYTON BEACH, Fla. - Lynn softball battled to a split on the road Saturday, using a late-inning rally to secure a 3-1 victory in Game 1 before falling 5-4 in extra innings in Game 2 against Embry-Riddle. The Fighting Knights showcased resilience throughout the day, delivering timely hits in the opener behind a complete-game effort from Kayley Zazzali, while mounting a comeback in the nightcap before a late defensive miscue allowed the Eagles to walk it off.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1):
- Embry-Riddle capitalized on early miscues in the first inning, scoring an unearned run on a pair of Lynn errors to take a 1-0 lead
- Lynn answered in the second, as Aiyana Hicks reached on a bunt single, stole second, and came around to score on an RBI single from Cara Willis to tie the game at 1-1
- The Eagles threatened in the second with the bases loaded, but the Fighting Knights worked out of the jam to keep the game even
- Both teams settled into a defensive battle through the middle innings, with neither side able to break through despite scattered baserunners
- Embry-Riddle put a runner in scoring position in the third with a double, but Lynn's defense held firm to maintain the tie
- Lynn generated traffic in the fourth and sixth innings, including multiple stolen bases from Hicks, but could not deliver a go-ahead hit
- The Fighting Knights broke through in the seventh, loading the bases before Quinn McFadden delivered a go-ahead RBI single to make it 2-1
- Moments later, Kyleigh Hope added insurance with an RBI single, extending Lynn's lead to 3-1
- Embry-Riddle put a runner on in the bottom half, but Lynn closed the door to secure the 3-1 victory
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 1):
- Hicks led the offense, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and two stolen bases, setting the tone at the top of the lineup
- Willis and Hope each delivered RBI singles, while Quinn McFadden added a clutch pinch-hit RBI in the seventh
- Lynn totaled six hits and drew three walks, with Kylie Burden reaching base three times (two walks, one run scored)
- The Fighting Knights were aggressive on the bases, swiping four total bags (Hicks 2, Willis 1, McFadden 1)
- Lynn executed small ball effectively, including a sacrifice bunt from Marina Goins to move a runner into scoring position
- Kayley Zazzali tossed a complete game, allowing just three hits and one unearned run while working around five walks
- Zazzali induced 16 combined flyouts and groundouts, keeping Embry-Riddle off balance throughout
 

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2):
- Lynn threatened in the first as Kyleigh Hope singled and moved into scoring position, but the Fighting Knights were unable to capitalize
- Embry-Riddle struck first in the second, using three hits and a Lynn error to plate two runs and take a 2-0 lead
- The Eagles added to their advantage in the third with an RBI double, extending the lead to 3-0
- Lynn responded in the fourth, capitalizing on defensive miscues as Cara Willis reached on an error and later came around to score, with another error allowing a second run to cross and cut the deficit to 3-2
- Embry-Riddle answered in the fifth, using a walk and pressure on the bases to push across an unearned run and make it 4-2
- The Fighting Knights rallied again in the sixth, taking advantage of another error before Kylie Burden delivered an RBI single to tie the game at 4-4
- Both teams were held scoreless in the seventh, sending the game into extra innings
- Lynn went down in order in the top of the eighth, unable to generate a scoring threat
- In the bottom half, Embry-Riddle loaded the bases and capitalized on a throwing error to bring home the winning run and secure the 5-4 victory
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 2):
- Hope led the offense with a 2-for-4 performance, accounting for half of Lynn's four hits
- Burden drove in a run and reached base twice (1-for-2, BB), delivering a key RBI knock in the comeback effort
- Santiago produced offensively despite not recording a hit, scoring twice and adding an RBI
- Goins scored a team-high two runs, using aggressive baserunning and pressure to impact the game
- Willis was active on the bases, swiping two stolen bases to create scoring chances
- In the circle, Gabriella Lindsey tossed 4.1 innings, striking out one while working through traffic
- Savannah Ellis and Kayley Zazzali combined for 3.0 innings of relief, allowing just one unearned run to keep Lynn in the game
