Lynn splits with Florida Southern behind strong bounce-back win in series finale

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Lynn softball team battled to a doubleheader split against Florida Southern, dropping a tightly contested 2-1 decision in game one before responding with a 4-2 victory in the nightcap. Behind timely hitting, aggressive baserunning, and a complete-game effort in the circle, the Fighting Knights bounced back to secure the split and build momentum heading into the final stretch of conference play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1):
- Both teams came out locked in defensively, as neither side recorded a hit through the first three innings with a combined nine straight outs to open the game
- Lynn found its first opportunity in the second inning when Aiyana Hicks reached on an error and stole second, but the Fighting Knights were unable to bring her home
- Florida Southern threatened for the first time in the fourth with a single, but Lynn's defense held strong and kept the game scoreless
- The Blue and White broke through in the bottom of the fourth as Teagan Riley launched a solo home run to left field, giving Lynn a 1-0 lead
- Both pitching staffs continued to deal into the fifth, with Florida Southern stranding a runner after a leadoff single and Lynn going down in order in the bottom half
- Florida Southern shifted momentum in the sixth, using back-to-back singles and aggressive baserunning to set up a game-tying RBI groundout
- The Mocs followed with a sacrifice fly later in the inning to take their first lead of the game, 2-1
- Lynn looked to respond in the sixth as Riley doubled with two outs, but the rally stalled before the tying run could cross
- The Fighting Knights stayed within striking distance in the seventh, highlighted by a leadoff double from Kaela Santiago

- Lynn struck first in the bottom of the first, as Quinn McFadden delivered an RBI single to plate Marina Goins for a 1-0 lead
- The Fighting Knights added on in the second, highlighted by an RBI triple from Isabella Rittle to extend the advantage to 2-0
- Florida Southern answered in the third with an RBI single, trimming the deficit to 2-1 and putting pressure on the Lynn defense
- The Mocs evened the game in the fourth, using back-to-back doubles to tie the score at 2-2
- Lynn responded immediately in the bottom half, capitalizing on traffic with an RBI fielder's choice from Rittle to regain a 3-2 lead
- The Blue and White added an insurance run in the same inning in unconventional fashion, as Kylie Burden stole home to push the lead to 4-2
- Florida Southern put runners on in the fifth and sixth innings, but Lynn's defense held firm to maintain the two-run advantage

- Rittle delivered a big performance, going 1-for-3 with a triple and a team-high two RBIs
- Burden reached base twice, going 1-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base, and a run scored, including a key steal of home
- Goins added a hit and a walk, finishing 1-for-2 with a run scored at the top of the lineup
- Willis chipped in with a 1-for-3 day and scored a run, helping set the table for Lynn's offense
