Abreu scores again as Lynn falls at St. Mary’s

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Lynn University women's soccer team outshot St. Mary's 25-12 but suffered its first loss of the 2026 season, falling 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Tessa Abreu scored her second goal in as many games as the Fighting Knights moved to 1-1 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Fighting Knights attempted to put pressure early with a shot by Alejandra Yallonardo that was blocked in the opening three minutes
- St. Mary's opened the scoring in the ninth minute to take an early 1-0 lead
- Lynn responded by creating several opportunities, including shots on goal from Abreu and Kayla Bradby
- The Rattlers added two goals in the 37th and 40th minutes to carry a 3-0 advantage into halftime
- Lynn recorded 12 shots during the opening half despite entering the break scoreless
- Abreu put the Fighting Knights on the board just 1:47 into the second half, cutting the deficit to 3-1
- There were scoring attempts from Bradby, Shayla De La Cruz and Elise Holcey withing minutes of each other
- Brisa Sastre forced a save in the 64th minute as Lynn continued searching for a second goal
- Juliana Torres had one final moment for the Blue and White with just seconds on the clock but her shot attempt was saved
- Lynn held St. Mary's scoreless after halftime but was unable to complete the comeback

FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Abreu recorded her second goal of the season and finished with three shots and two shots on goal
- Bradby led Lynn with four shots
- Sastre and Torres each recorded three shots and placed two on goal
Emma Brunelli made five saves
- Lynn held a 25-12 advantage in shots and placed nine attempts on goal
- The Fighting Knights outshot the Rattlers 13-5 during the second half
- Lynn controlled 56 percent of possession and held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks
- Brunelli, Helene Sorbo and Catarina Fernandes each played the full 90 minutes of the game

UP NEXT:
The Fighting Knights return to Boca Raton for their home opener on Wednesday, Sept. 2, when they host Sul Ross State at 6:00 pm.
