Lynn University

Tristan McGinnis

Tristan McGinnis is in his fourth season as an assistant coach with the Lynn University baseball program, where he serves as pitching coach and recruiting coordinator.

The 2025 season saw the Lynn University baseball team achieve a milestone season, winning 30 games, earning a spot in the NCAA Regionals, and posting the best conference record in program history. The Fighting Knights had seven players earn All-Sunshine State Conference honors, highlighted by SSC Player of the Year and All-American Cole Fowler, Freshman Pitcher of the Year Brad Benton, and First Team All-SSC pitchers Ryan DiMaggio and Nate Shane. Lynn’s pitching staff finished 2nd in the SSC in ERA.

In the 2024 season, the Fighting Knights started strong, being nationally ranked for consecutive weeks. Senior outfielder Shawn Dougherty was named to the national gold glove team and selected to the ABCA DII region all-defensive team. Junior third baseman Cole Fowler and junior outfielder Leon Paulino were named to the First Team All-SSC Conference. Sophomore RHP Matt Tiberia was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 18th round of the 2024 Major League Baseball Draft.

During the 2023 season, senior RHP Drew Dwyer earned NCBWA South Region First Team, ABCA/Rawlings All-South Region Second Team, D2CCA All-South Region Second Team, First Team All-SSC, and was a two-time SSC Pitcher of the Week. Dwyer signed a NIL deal with the University of Miami Hurricanes as a graduate transfer.

McGinnis joined the Fighting Knight staff after serving as the pitching coach at Ashland University in 2022. The pitching staff led the Great Midwest Athletic Conference in earned-run average and strikeouts, while the Eagles finished 35-21 and earned a spot in the NCAA Midwest Regional. As recruiting coordinator, his 2022 class was ranked in the top 20 in NCAA Division II by Perfect Game.

Prior to Ashland, McGinnis spent two seasons at Florida Atlantic University as an assistant coach, where he focused on the development of the Owls’ pitching staff and served as camp coordinator. During the 2021 season, McGinnis managed the Owls' in-game pitchers to a conference series split against No. 19 Southern Mississippi and a midweek shutout victory over the University of Miami. The Owls posted 32 wins, the No. 3 seed in the Conference USA East Division, and the staff featured Second Team All-C-USA member Hunter Cooley (who posted an 8-4 record) and Javi Rivera (who went undefeated with a 7-0 mark and was a 20th-round selection of the Cincinnati Reds in the MLB Draft).

McGinnis started his coaching career at Concord University as a student assistant, graduate assistant, and finally the Mountain Lions' pitching coach. During the 2019 season, his staff set a CU program record with 369 strikeouts, and right-hander Will Guay became a 24th-round selection of the St. Louis Cardinals.

A native of West Palm Beach, Fla., McGinnis has worked for USA Baseball for seven years in roles such as a National Team Development Program task force scout and site supervisor for the National Team Championships East and National Team Identification Series.

McGinnis is also the founder and director of Student Athlete Community Service Network Inc. (SACSN), a 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to providing a platform for high school student-athletes to give back, stand out, and succeed through sports and volunteerism. Over one hundred and thirty alumni have been drafted by Major League Baseball, including twenty 1st-round picks, and sixteen making their MLB debut.

McGinnis graduated from Concord in 2018 with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a minor in Pre-Law. He earned his Master's degree in Health Promotion from Concord in May 2020.
