Warren Backman joined the Lynn Fighting Knights in summer of 2021 as a volunteer assistant coach with the men's soccer team.
Prior to Lynn, he served as the assistant coach for the Regis College men's soccer team for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 academic years. Besides showing his passion and his efforts on the pitch with the Pride players, he also worked hard to recruit over 20 new student-athletes to the program, including numerous who went on to win GNAC player of the week awards and all-conference honors. In addition, he was a member of the game operations staff, assisting at all home Regis athletic events. Warren earned his master's degree from Regis College in strategic sports communications.
Backman also served as the U-15 Boys coach for both blue and white teams at SFC New England in Winchester, MA.
Originally from Spring Hill, Fla., Backman appeared in 47 matches, including 34 starts, as a defender for the Emerson College men’s soccer team from 2014 to 2017. After earning one assist in 2016, he finished with two goals and three assists in 2017, scoring his first career goal against Emmanuel on Sept. 2, 2017. After dishing out two assists against Fisher on Sept. 10, 2017, Backman collected one goal and one assist against Newbury on Sept. 18, 2017.
Backman graduated from Emerson in May 2018 with his bachelor’s degree in sports communications. Before working at Regis College, Backman previously served as the lead broadcaster for Boston City FC of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) and played semi-professionally for Boston Siege of the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) and Temple Terrace Spirit of the Champions Soccer League (CSL).
In addition to coaching the Fighting Knights, Backman is also the coach of a U-14 boys team at Team Boca.
Backman was recently named a member of the United Soccer Coaches 30 Under 30 Program.
