Julia Tucker

Julia “Coach Hudd” Tucker has established a reputation for building dynamic and successful women’s basketball programs that set records and profoundly impact the athletic and personal development of her players.

As the Head Women’s Coach at Lynn University for the last 11 seasons, the 2022-23 season marked one of the finest years in program history as Lynn advanced to the Sunshine State Conference Tournament Championship Game and earned an NCAA Division II Tournament berth. The 23 victories established a new program record for wins in a season and represented the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance in over a decade.

Known for her strategic recruitment of disciplined student-athletes and her dedication to mentoring young women to develop confidence and resilience, she prioritizes health and safety strategies that foster a supportive environment where individuals feel comfortable being their authentic selves.

Tucker also served as an assistant basketball coach at Furman University and Virginia Commonwealth University. During her tenure at VCU, Tucker helped lead the school’s first-ever postseason appearance and second finish in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) and the school’s inaugural NCAA Tournament appearance.

Naturally, Tucker is a game-changer who leaves lasting imprints within basketball and beyond. Her motivation comes from enabling young women to become strong leaders who can stand on their own two feet, no matter their circumstances. She also prioritizes creating spaces that are diverse and equitable. To achieve this, she emphasizes the importance of a strong work ethic, trust, and working with good people. Her goal is to promote diversity and inclusion so that everyone can feel comfortable being their truest selves.

As a self-proclaimed coach for life, Tucker sets an example by living authentically and inspires others to do the same. Her commitment to being true to herself is an integral part of her leadership style. And her ability to connect with people has influenced the upward trajectory of her career. Consequently, she was recognized as the Employee of the Month at Lynn University for her dedication, inclusivity, and courage.

Whether championing the importance of mental health in sports for athletes and coaches or cultivating diverse team cultures, Tucker is one-of-a-kind. And her wife, Adrienne, and son, Lennox, drive her to show up as her unique self in all capacities, and for that, her stance leaves a winning impression on and off the court.
