Lynn University appointed Marcelo Huarte head coach for the men's golf program in July of 2021. Huarte added men's golf to his original role as head coach of the Fighting Knights' women's golf team, becoming the fifth (men’s golf) and seventh (women’s golf) head coach in each respective sport.
Huarte inherited a women’s team that missed the national tournament in three consecutive years after winning back-to-back national champions in 2013 & 2014 and finishing third in 2015. In his first three seasons, he has resurrected the program by winning the Sunshine State Conference (SSC) championship, SSC and NCAA DII South Regional Coach of the Year in each year of eligibility. He has achieved a head-to-head record of 94-11-1 against the SSC; and in 2021, he led the women's program to an end of the year No. 1 NCAA DII ranking after finishing as the NCAA DII National runner-ups.
Under his guidance, he has fostered eight All-Americans, an NCAA individual national champion (Helen Kreuzer), and an SSC Freshmen of the Year (Camila Madariaga).
Huarte joined the Fighting Knights after serving two years as an assistant coach for both the Buccaneers men's and women’s golf programs. In his first season he helped Barry's women's program win the 2017 NCAA Division II National Championship as the Bucs also won a school-record five tournaments,
Not limited to the women's side, Huarte also assisted with the Barry men's golf program as the team advanced to the NCAA Championship national semifinals in 2017-18, and was a national quarterfinalist in 2016-17. Huarte closed out his own collegiate career in 2014, winning national titles in 2013 and 2014, and collecting All-America recognition.
