West Palm Beach, Fla. – Recording its largest scoring output since its opening game, Lynn University's women's soccer team earned a 3-3 draw with Palm Beach Atlantic on Tuesday night. Reanne Thomas, Jamie Lockie and Melissa Ortiz all scored for the Fighting Knights, who's record moves to 4-4-2 overall.
The Sailfish's charge towards earning their first career victory against the Blue & White began in the 14th minute when Angie Kuhn sent in a cross to the left post and Juliet Waller connected on a shot past keeper Kelsey Butler.
Lynn had other thoughts though, knotting the game at one in the 36th minute of play. Paige Meggison lifted a cross to the middle of the box where Allison Fox came running off her line. Fortunately for LU, the ball sailed over Fox's hands, leaving Thomas with a wide-open net for her first career goal.
Nearly two minutes later the Knights would strike again, this time from Lockie. The freshman forward beat her defender with a nifty move to her right, stared down her target then unleashed a shot from 30-yards out to the upper corner for her third goal of the season.
Ortiz increased the Blue & White lead at 65:12 off a free kick. Nettingher third goal this year, the junior forward blasted a shot around the Sailfish wall to the lower left corner to put LU ahead 3-1.
Unfortunately for LU, Palm Beach Atlantic (7-2-1) was able to tie the game up with a pair of late goals. Both scores came from Kuhn, who beat defenders each time for one-on-one attempts with Butler.
Lynn outshot PBA 21-16 but the Sailfish managed a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. Butler logged eight saves while her counterpart Fox stopped seven shots. Palm Beach Atlantic's record against LU now stands at 0-10-2 all-time.
