Box Score BOCA RATON - The Lynn University women's soccer team fell to the University Tampa, 2-0 on Friday afternoon at LU's McCusker Sports Complex. The Spartans improve to 10-5 overall and 4-3 in the Sunshine State Conference while the Fighting Knights fall to 5-6-2 overall and 2-5 in the SSC.
Tampa's Gabby scored the game-winning goal in the 12th minute and added an insurance assist with just under five minutes to play in regulation.
Jolin scored as Courtney Peffley put in a perfect cross to the middle of the box which Jolin headed in past Lynn goalkeeper Kelsey Butler.
Butler, who made seven saves on the day, was tested often as the Spartans took 23 shots compared to just eight for the Fighting Knights. The sophomore netminder was able to keep the Blue & White alivemaking several diving saves throughout the game.
Melissa Ortiz and Kayley Clay led the Fighting Knights with two shots apiece, but Ortiz' attempt in the 89th minute was the best scoring opportunity as the shot sailed just high.
Luana Miessa scored for the Spartans in the 86th minute as her and Jolin had a two-on-one breakaway on Butler.
Spartans goalkeeper Leah Cesanek made four saves in the shutout.
