Last Minute Goal Ends Women's Soccer Season

Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. – Playing neck and neck for 89 minutes, Lynn University's women's soccer team gave up a last minute goal and fell 1-0 to Nova Southeastern on Tuesday night.  The Fighting Knights close out the season 5-7-2 overall and 2-6 in the Sunshine State Conference.

Nova Southeastern (9-4-1, 5-1-1 SSC) outshot LU 19-6 but only two attempts came from inside the 18-yard box.  Kelsey Butler stopped five shots, giving her 89 on the year, the third most in program history fora single season.

The Blue & White put pressure on the Sharks offensively throughout the match, evident by their seven offsides calls.  But NSU was able to turn away each close chance.  Jamie Lockie and Melissa Oritz each had opportunities around the net but both shots went wide of their mark.

In the 89th minute of play Shanoska Young put up a last ditch effort ball high into the LU box.  The Knights' defense tried for the clearance but saw as the ball took a bad bounce.  Alexis Hernandez was there to collect the loose ball and knocked in a low shot for the game-winner.

Lynn returns all 16 letterwinners for 2011.
